BLACK LIVES MATTER
We believe that Black Lives Matter.
We condemn the killing of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and the loss of so many other black lives to police violence.
We condemn the pattern of systemic violence and oppression against black people.
We stand in solidarity with those protesting for significant changes in law enforcement and the criminal justice system.
These concerns may not seem obviously related to the board game industry, but racism affects all areas of society. Hobby boardgaming is a disproportionately white social space and many people of color do not feel welcome at our tables.
This needs to change.
As a board game publisher, it is all too easy for us to hire talent and publish games though our immediate associations. We receive references from friends and form partnerships with people we know. In an industry that is predominantly white, this means that, by default, the people we work with are likely to be white. Unless we make an effort to reach outside our immediate social circles and actively court talent of color, we will simply be recreating the problem of racism in our industry.
We want to live in a world where black lives are valued and black people are welcome and included in all areas of life, including our hobby. So we need to do better as a company.
Thunderworks Games is committed to diverse representation in our games and their themes, and we actively seek submissions and portfolios from designers, artists, and writers of color.
